Can ChatGPT Solve Captcha’s
ChatGPT is always a tool that I jump on and keep experimenting with. When opening google and faced with a Captcha that said I’m not a robot, I wondered, what if it was an AI trying to open it.
Creating the training data
First I created a very simple PDF with training data for three types of Captcha’s I wanted to include, Text-Based, Image-Based (single image) and Image-Based (multiple images). You can access it here: Captcha Training Data. As you can tell, it took me a long 10 minutes of effort, I then uploaded into a NewGPT I created on ChatGPT. Creating the GPT
Now came the simple process of creating the GPT, I gave it my first command explaining the training data and what Captcha’s are, then I told it to whenever giving an answer, draw X’s on the boxes. Then I decided to test it, a complete failure. I gave it a Text based captcha and it just gave a straight error, “Hmmm… Something went wrong. Please try again later.” I did try again, nothing happened. Next the Image Based Captcha’s at least it gave a response, not that it was helpful. First time it gave me X’s not even placed on the tiles itself, the next time it just wouldn’t give an Image back. It’s very funky and clearly not working.
Conclusion
I guess a twenty-minute project made by a 14 year old at 7 in the morning was not able to solve a Captcha’s. It was still cool to see ChatGPT try and fail misreably every single time. I even tried using a different Captcha Solver on the GPT Store and it also failed, showing my troubles are world wide with ChatGPT solving captcha’s.
