Many of you on social media have probably seen videos or heard of people that are setting and songs and audio clips as a ringtone or message sound. Today I’m gonna teach you how you can set your own.

Step One: Download the Apps

If you have a iPhone, it GarageBand comes pre-downloaded on your phone, still most people end up deleting it. On the App Store search for GarageBand, it should be the first result with a app icon like the image above. It is made by apple so it’s a very secure app. Next nearly everyone has this app but if you don’t you may need to download it. It’s called files, and is again made by apple. It is pre installed on most phones.

Step Two: Find the clip you are using

Most of you know which audio clip you are using, you need a MP3 for this to work. If it is something of youtube or a social media platform you may have to find a MP3 downloader. Just search “YouTube MP3 Downloader” and try a couple until one works. Once you have the audio clip in your files it’s time to start.

Step Three: Edit it with GarageBand

This is a big section so I’m cutting it into parts.

Part One: Make it 30 seconds

Those of you that are visual learners, I’ll have a GIF running below this paragraph which does all the steps here. The first step is too open the app, hit the blue plus in the top right if you need to and find Audio Recorder. Click on it, then click on the weird grid button, it’s the third button on the left. It should turn into a microphone when you click it and a new screen will open. Once the new screen opens. Hit the plus on the top right corner. You should see something that says Section A- 8 Bars. Click that manual and move it up to 30. Then click done. This makes the ringtone the full thirty seconds instead of just 8.

Part Two: Add the song to the project

The second button to the right should be a loopy-di loop type of symbol. It also looks kind of like a Omega or something, it’s the button next to the settings. Click on it. Then at the bottom click Browse Items from the Files App. Chose your MP3 File and click it. It will pop up in garage bands files. Once it’s there drag and drop it back into the audio editor.

If you need to crop it and change something you can do that now The crop tool is very easy and self-explanitory to use. Move the ends of the song to where you want it to start and end. Just make sure if you crop the start that you hold the song down, and moved it to the very start. Lastly, the 4th button to the right, or the button right of the big red circle, may start a metronome. If it is blue, simply click it too turn it off.

Part Three: Make the song a ringtone

Once your done with GarageBand click The leftmost button, a downward arrow. Then click my songs, this will save the file and will show you a screen with all of your GarageBand creations. Hold the file you just made and click rename. Name it to whatever you want. Then hold it again and this time click share. Three options will pop-up. Click the one in the middle that says ringtone. Then press continue and then export. Once that’s done go to settings -> Sounds and Haptics -> Ringtone. This should now pop-up. There you have it. You’ve just made a custom ringtone.
